i am Abel

Abel Reyes Jr., a.k.a. Abel J, originally from San Antonio, TX US; now calling Laredo, TX US his headquarters; Abel started his passion for the arts early in life. Expressing favor in watercolors and ink mediums, Abel studied with Margaret Anderson and Lonnie Smith to learn the intricacies of these mediums. As a natural extension of visual design, Abel sought after a category of medium to bring his creations into a new direction. In searching, Abel landed on forming sculptures out of wood and stone in both abstract and representational models.

The auditory form of art, Music, was always an integral part of Abel's life. Musical composition seemed to spout out of Abel's very essence. Abel began composing song and lyric at the age of ten and has worked with bands as the opening act for artists such as Trapeze, Santa Emeralda, and Samantha Sang. Abel is an accomplished keyboardist and vocalist ranging from contemporary jazz to electric-alternative R&B. He has honed his skills with the likes of bands: 'Mercy Beats', 'Heart', 'The Godfathers', 'Texas Road Apples', 'Kris Bravo Band', 'Laughing Kind', 'Thunderbox', 'Fuse', and 'Ragz'.

Being a deeply spiritual man, Abel spent a portion of his life creating religious music and touring with the likes of Swaggart Ministries and Christ Worship Center, among others. In the mid-90's, Abel began 'the Yusef Project' as a way of producing modern religious music that would bridge the spiritual portion and modernistic life of music.

In 2015, Abel set on a new mission of musical expressiveness. Armed with life experiences and a new vision for the sound of his music, Abel started the band 'Big Dogs Bite' and produced 'First Bite' as it's launch into the public. After only one month, 'First Bite' hit over 250,000 plays. Now looking for his next sound, Abel and Big Dogs Bite are expected to release a new album soon.
